Mid-Columbia Housing Authority

Mid-Columbia Housing Authority (MCHA) and Columbia Gorge Housing Authority (CGHA) are happy to also have Columbia Cascade Housing Corporation (CCHC) work together to promote affordable housing throughout the Gorge.  We work towards this goal through the various programs offered for renters, landlords and homeowners as well as through developments owned and operated by CCHC.

Our staff works with partners throughout our region to provide support, education and help in many aspects of living in the Gorge.  Please visit our community partners’ webpages to learn about other resources in your area:

The cost of renting or buying a home is increasingly out of reach. Our housing affordability challenge puts us at risk of losing what has made the Gorge, and our diverse hometowns, a wonderful place to live, work and play. MCHA is engaging with local businesses, elected officials, neighbors and community organizations to promote attainable housing solutions throughout our five county region.

  • Those who work in our communities are increasingly unable to live here.
  • Employers are ever more challenged by their inability to attract a talented workforce due to the high cost of housing.
  • Steep rises in land costs and dwindling supplies limit what’s available for affordable housing units.
  • Vacation and short-term rentals contribute to the economy, but also create market pressures that deplete attainable housing.
  • Lack of attainable housing inhibits children achieving better results in school.
  • Healthy habits take root more easily in stable, affordable homes

Lines of Business:

  • Rental Assistance Programs that pay a portion of the monthly rent to privately owned units
    • $3.8mm invested annually in private rental market through Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program
