Wildfire Damage Housing Relief

Program Overview:  Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) was directed by the 78th Oregon Legislative Assembly to develop, implement and administer the Wildfire Damage
Housing Relief Account Program to assist households of lower income that suffer a loss of housing due to a wildfire.

Eligibility Requirements
A homeowner may apply for financial assistance to provide relief for damages incurred due to a wildfire.
To qualify for program assistance:
(a) The loss or damage to housing must be due to a wildfire as defined by ORS 477.089.
(b) The applicant must be an Oregon resident at the time of the loss or damage to housing.
(c) The applicant has a previous year annual income that is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level.
(d) The loss or damage to housing must have occurred in Oregon on or after July 1, 2017.
(e) The home lost or damaged due to wildfire must be the household’s primary residence.
(f) The household must own the home that is lost or damaged due to wildfire.
(g) The home that is lost or damaged due to wildfire may be a stick built home, a
site built home, or a recreational vehicle that is the primary residence of the applicant.
(h) The home damaged by the wildfire is considered uninhabitable unless repaired or replaced.
(i) To receive assistance, the household must submit an application to the department along with verification of loss, proof of ownership, and proof of income.
(j) The household must apply for grant funds within one hundred and eighty (180) days after the loss of the home

Type of Program Assistance
Program assistance for damages may not exceed $7,000 per household.  Applications will be accepted until all Wildfire Damage Housing Relief Account funds are expended.
Program Delivery The application is available online at http://www.oregon.gov/ohcs/pages/wildfire-damage-housing-reliefprogram.aspx.
After submission of the application, OHCS will notify applicants if the application

is incomplete within ten (10) days. OHCS will process complete applications and payments to homeowners within thirty (30) days.

MCHA’s Annual Plan has been APPROVED

Mid-Columbia Housing Authority is required to submit an annual plan to HUD with prior approval from our Board of Directors, State of Oregon Housing and Community Services as well as providing the public a opportunity to review and comment on our plan.  On May 29th we held a public meeting open to all the residence of the counties that we serve once this meeting was adjourned our Board of Directors voted to approve our annual plan for submission.  You can find Mid-Columbia Housing Authority’s approved annual plan below or you can request a copy from our office located at 500 East 2nd Street. Hood River and Wasco Counties in Oregon’s Top Five Most Expensive Areas to Live!

The Dalles, OR. (June 13th, 2018) – This year’s Out of Reach report, released today from the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC), shows that Hood River and Wasco residents earning minimum wage would have to work almost two full time jobs just to afford a two bedroom apartment and still have money left over for other necessities like food, medicine and transportation. We know that families often pay much more of their income towards rent leaving them at risk of homelessness if an unexpected financial emergency or job loss occurs.

Meyer Memorial Trust grants Mid-Columbia Housing Authority $75,000 for new deposit assistance program

Meyer Memorial Trust just released their grant funding for Advancing Equity and Mid-Columbia Housing Authority was on the list of recipients!  The grant awarded by Meyer Memorial Trust will fund a new deposit assistance program starting in January 2018.  This new program will assist low-income residence of Hood River, Wasco and Sherman Counties with an interest free loan for housing rental deposits.  The caseworker assigned will work with the recipients to help build their credit through the repayment process.  Please stay tuned for more information on this new program as it develops!
